Prior to coming to the Bar, Stragen commenced as a solicitor advocate in a small suburban law firm before working in a specialist family law department of a mid-sized firm and joining the Department of Health and Human Services as in-house counsel.

Whilst in private practice, Stragen acted in complex property and financial cases with small asset pools and commercial asset pools of up to $37 million, as well as in complex parenting cases involving international relocation and non-parent applications in the Family Court of Australia.
