Effy graduated from Monash University in 1990, She completed her Articles with Maddock Lonie and Chisholm (now Maddocks) and practised as a solicitor with them for a year before signing the bar roll in 1992.

 

Effy Lagos has had 30 years of experience at the Victorian Bar undertaking a mixture of both privately funded and Victoria Legal Aid matters across jurisdictions including the County Court, Magistrates’ Court, Children’s Court and Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT). Her criminal practice includes: contested bail applications in the Magistrates’ Court, Bail and Remand Court and Children’s Court alongside other criminal appearances including pleas of guilty, consolidated pleas, contest mentions, summary case conferencing, diversion applications and  traffic matters and license restorations.

She also appears in therapeutic courts including the Drug Court, Assessment and Referral Court and Neighbourhood Justice Centre.

 

Effy appears for both Applicants and Respondents in family violence intervention orders and personal safety intervention orders.

 

Effy’s practice in VOCAT is extensive and she also appears for victims of crime in complicated matters including historical sexual abuse cases, out of time applications, s 52 and s 54 issues along with appeals to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

 

Effy is also engaged by Leo Cussen Centre for Law to assess trainees in their practical assessments.

 

Effy has continued throughout her career to mentor high school students from underprivileged backgrounds both informally and as part of community outreach programs.
