(Bachelor of Arts - University of New England 1979)He was an articled clerk at Phillips Fox in 1987.He read with Gordon Ritter QC and Ross Macaw QC in 1988.He was appointed Senior Counsel in November 2001.

He enjoys a broad general practice, and appears in all superior courts (trial and appellate levels). He is regularly briefed to provide advice.He has appeared in many matters for the Registrar of Titles.He is regularly briefed in construction law matters.He has appeared in a number of constitutional law matters.He is a specialist in the area of contempt of court.

He has prosecuted many cases in this area, regularly provided advice, and appeared in numerous appeals including to the High Court.He conducts Mediations.

John Langmead is a leading practitioner in aviation law in Australia. He regularly appears in this field in Victoria and all interstate jurisdictions. He has acted for representatives of all sectors of the aviation industry, for regulatory bodies, and for local and overseas insurers. He is regularly briefed in litigation brought under the Civil Aviation (Carriers? Liability) Act 1959 and various related international conventions, in proceedings for administrative or judicial review of decisions of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, in aviation related liability insurance cases, aviation related criminal proceedings, and in aviation related inquests.John holds a current commercial pilot licence (fixed wing).

He held a grade 1 instructor rating (fixed wing) for 16 years. He has in excess of 2,700 hours flying experience and is endorsed on single and multi-engine aircraft. He holds an aerobatic approval. He formerly held chief pilot approval. He is a glider pilot and hang glider pilot.He has regularly chaired disciplinary tribunals for the Hang Gliding Federation of Australia.Inquests: he has acted as counsel assisting the Coroner. He has appeared at inquests for the Australian Army, and for the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. He has appeared in aviation related inquests in Victoria, Western Australia, Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland and New South Wales.

He appeared for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in the long-running Linton Fires inquest in Melbourne.John is a contributor to various legal publications, and to insurance and aviation industry journals. He is also a frequent guest speaker at aviation related seminars.
