Cilla Brookes
Cilla specialises in Family Law.
In 2000 she commenced her legal career in the practise of family law, commercial litigation and insolvency law with Darrer Muir Fleiter (Surrey Hills).
Cilla then worked as a solicitor advocate predominantly in family law and also in criminal law (youth and adult) and child protection.
In 2007 she was called to the Bar.
Cilla accepts briefs in all family related jurisdictions, and is well versed in all aspects of property and children’s cases. She regularly appears on behalf of Independent Children’s Lawyers. She also accepts briefs in Family Division Children’s Court matters and Intervention Order matters.
She understands the interplay between family law, child protection, family violence protection orders and criminal law proceedings as she has practised in all areas both as Solicitor and Counsel.
Cilla is a long-standing member of the Family Law Bar Association and the Children’s Court Bar Association.
In 2021, she joined the Victorian Bar Library Committee.
Cilla is also a member of various organisations including the following:
- The Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration - legal practitioner,
- The Australian Italian Lawyers – an Italophile who does not speak Italian,
- National ICL website – member,
- The Women Barristers Bar Association – Victorian Bar, and
- Women in the Law UK.
Cilla has previously volunteered for various community legal centres and has lectured in commercial law subjects including for Victoria University (higher TAFE levels).
Before the law she worked in industrial relations, hospitality, retail sales, marketing and sales , and the visual arts and book industries. She draws upon all her experience – including more than twenty years in Law – and her honed skills in management, client liaison and persuasion, to provide a tailored service for her clients. She is a proud to be a member of the Profession.
